SOULPORTRAITS
Whenever I find myself in a new unknown territory, the greatest desire is to know the history of that place and of the things that are part of it and that tell its story.
I have realized over the years and travels that each place contained within it a space for the soul, real and abstract at the same time, made of nobility, elegance, wealth, and history. Thus were born “cathedrals” and “castles”…or “portraits of the soul,” temples charged with empathy, by choice or by tradition, which time has worn away by fading the contours and facades but leaving intact their charm, so much so that they are the landmarks of every place. They tell the tales of the centuries as noble ladies sit on the world and look down through the embroidery of the dress. The doors that generally in all cultures symbolize the rite of passage to another state, era, or situation in SOULPORTRAIT are colorful pages, telling poems, numbers, and many stories that tell it, as if they were a testimony of the people who crossed it with hope. The stone shrines I have called SOULPORTRAIT have passed through countless seasons, the snow and the stars, the meadows, and the rituals. Wars have wounded them but not killed them, and in everyone’s memory they will forever remain sacred places.
I have approached them with all the respect they deserve by using gold where color is not enough precious. I show them as they rise to the sky and merge with it, becoming part of it. They are for me a new story within the story.
